The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration intends to award a sole source purchase order to Fondriest Environmental, Inc. for NexSens CB-950 data buoy spare parts. This procurement, valued at 80,150 dollars under a firm fixed price agreement, is based on the fact that Fondriest Environmental is the only authorized reseller of NexSens products in the United States. The parts are critical for maintaining the Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services inventory, supporting real-time physical oceanographic systems, emergency response deployments, and various survey projects. The use of NexSens components is required to ensure full compatibility in form, fit, and function with existing systems, thereby avoiding the significant costs and time associated with testing, integrating, and training for alternative equipment. The contract falls under NAICS code 334511 and has a delivery requirement of 90 days from the date of award. While currently identified as a sole source requirement, the agency has provided a window for other firms to submit documentation if they believe they can meet the government requirements. The current contract is expected to end on November 30, 2026, with a medium confidence level that it will be a recompete opportunity.
