Nitronic 50 stainless steel forgings

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is conducting market research through a Request for Information to identify capable sources for the procurement of Nitronic 50 Stainless Steel forgings to support the High Field Test Facility Dipole project. The project requires two large forgings, each measuring a minimum of 845 x 525 x 263 mm, to be used as endplates for a 15T superconducting magnet. The material must comply with the UNS S20910 / ASTM XM-19 specification and meet minimum property requirements as defined by ASTM A182. Respondents are expected to demonstrate technical capability, including inspection and testing procedures, and provide details on the documentation package they would supply, such as material certifications, non-destructive test reports, and dimensional inspection records. The response must address whether the forgings would be manufactured in the United States and qualify as domestic products under the Buy American Act, with mandatory disclosure of the manufacturing facility’s location and compliance with the 65% domestic content threshold. Any foreign-sourced products must meet specific cost thresholds compared to domestic alternatives to be considered for exceptions.
