Norseman Elementary School Modernization

The Fresno Unified School District is implementing the Norseman Elementary School Modernization Project at 4636 East Weldon Avenue in Fresno, California. Funded by Measure H bonds, the project involves the modernization of a 12.4-acre campus through the demolition of aging 1956 facilities and portable classrooms and the construction of approximately 28,500 square feet of new facilities. Key developments include a new two-story classroom, library, and administration building of approximately 43,600 square feet, an early learning building, and upgraded outdoor instructional and recreation areas. The scope also encompasses improvements to on-site parking, student drop-off areas, and off-site traffic safety enhancements within public rights-of-way. Construction is scheduled to take place in two phases between June 2028 and August 2029 to ensure the school remains operational. The project is designed to comply with Division of the State Architect standards, state building codes, accessibility, energy efficiency, and safety requirements without increasing student enrollment or campus capacity. Environmental safeguards are integrated into the project, including nesting bird surveys, cultural resource assessments, and noise and vibration controls. The project is currently in the conceptual design stage, with a focus on prioritizing electric infrastructure and mechanical equipment to enhance sustainability.
