The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention plans to award a sole source firm fixed price purchase order to the Atlanta Federal Statistical Research Data Centers (FSRDC) to obtain access to restricted data from the National Survey of Children’s Health, conducted by the US Census Bureau. This initiative aims to generate reliable county-level estimates of childhood nutrition, physical activity, and obesity prevalence, which are critical for informing public health interventions and research publications. The contract includes access for up to two researchers to enter the FSRDC and covers all necessary approval processes to use the secure data facility. Such detailed local estimates are currently unavailable through comprehensive surveillance systems, and traditional survey methods are cost-prohibitive. Access to this restricted data is essential as it provides the detailed geographic identifiers and sufficient sample size necessary to produce accurate county-level estimates, which will enable more targeted allocation of resources and program development. The procurement will be conducted as a sole source acquisition under specific FAR and federal statutory authority, with a North American Industry Classification System code of 541611 for Administrative Management and General Management Consulting Services. While this notice is not a request for competitive quotations, the government will consider any responses or expressions of interest received within 15 days from the notice issuance, with a deadline of June 26, 2026, at 5 p.m. EST. Responses must be submitted via email to the designated CDC contract specialist. The contract performance will take place in Atlanta, Georgia, and the decision to competitively solicit the requirement remains at the discretion of the government based on any submissions received.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention intends to award a sole source firm fixed price purchase order to Atlanta Federal Statistical Research Data Centers, for a seat at the Atlanta FSRDC to conduct analyses on restricted data from the National Survey of Children’s Health administered by the US Census Bureau. This project will result in generating estimates of childhood obesity that will be used to inform programs and for research publications. The cost includes entrance to the FSRDC for up to two researchers and all approval processes required. Reliable county-level childhood estimates of nutrition, physical activity, and obesity prevalence can aid public health officials in tailoring interventions to promote regular physical activity, better nutrition, and healthy weight more effectively and allocating limited resources more strategically. While existing data shows significant state level geographic variation in childhood obesity, nutrition, and physical activity, currently, no comprehensive surveillance system provides direct estimates of any of these for each U.S. county, making it challenging to address this pressing public health issue effectively.  Traditional survey methods for obtaining nationwide county estimates are costly. Previously developed methods used multilevel modeling to estimate prevalence at the county level and lower. To generate these estimates, restricted data from the National Survey of Children’s Health administered by the US Census Bureau is required. Access to restricted data is only allowed after an approval process at a secure Federal Statistical Research Data Centers (FSRDC). The nearest FSRDC to CDC Atlanta is the Atlanta Research Data Center Research Department at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. Other data sources are not consistent with the published methodology for generating these estimates and do not offer the local identifiers or the large enough sample size required to generate the estimates.
