Repair sewer lines identified by the attached survey. The condition of the existing sanitary sewer system of the entire NSA Mechanicsburg facility in in poor condition. System was mostly built in the 1940’s with some add-on sections or replacements based on breaks. The system is mostly constructed of a variety of sizes but is dominantly 8”, 10”, and12” vitrified clay pipe (also known as terra cota). The objective of survey to briefly summarize the sanitary sewer system condition and highlight the key findings. The system recommendation is based upon the existing sanitary sewer systems in place as of a televideo study done in 2017 and condition rating survey accomplished 2021. Over the intervening almost 80 years, the sanitary sewer system has become compromised, for various reasons, with pipe joints that have separated to some degree, pipe cracks, pipe breaks, and other defects. There is also thought to be illicit cross-connects with the storm sewer system. Due to infiltration and inflow issues, perceived to be from at NSA-Mechanicsburg, downstream pump station owned and maintained by Hampden Township is experiencing significant and regular high water events.
