AI Contract Overview
The Department of the Air Force, through the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center’s Nuclear Weapons Acquisition Division (AFNWC/NDB) at Eglin Air Force Base, is organizing an Industry Day event for the Nuclear Stores Interface Unit (NSIU) production program. This event, rescheduled for July 15-16, 2026, aims to provide potential vendors with an overview of the NSIU program, which is a follow-on to the ongoing Engineering, Manufacturing and Development (EMD) contract awarded in 2022 and completing in 2027. The NSIU is a Line Replaceable Unit designed to provide an electronic interface compliant with MIL-STD-1760 standards between aircraft and their stores, incorporating enhanced nuclear hardness requirements. AFNWC/NDB seeks build-to-print manufacturers capable of producing the NSIU according to government specifications, without requiring hardware installation. Attendance at Industry Day is optional and serves informational and planning purposes ahead of the anticipated solicitation release expected in the second quarter of FY2027. The Industry Day will be held in person at Eglin AFB and will include program briefings, discussion of contracting approaches, and one-on-one sessions lasting 30 minutes each to allow vendors to present capabilities and engage directly with government representatives. Participation is free but limited to U.S. citizens with prior registration mandatory, requiring submission of identity verification data and adherence to strict security controls, including prohibition of electronic devices on site. The event does not constitute a solicitation or RFP issuance, nor does attendance guarantee or limit participation in any future acquisitions. Contract details such as type, evaluation criteria, pricing, and delivery schedules remain undecided and will be communicated with the formal solicitation. The AFNWC/NDB contracting office, led by Contracting Officer Caroline Segovia, manages vendor engagement and registration processes. This engagement represents a critical step toward shaping the NSIU acquisition strategy and gauging industry capabilities to support the production of a key aircraft interface unit vital to nuclear weapons system modernization.

DESCRIPTON:
The US Air Force, through the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center Nuclear Weapons Acquisition Division at Eglin AFB (AFNWC/NDB), plans to conduct an Industry Day event to inform potential offerors about the upcoming Nuclear Stores Interface Unit (NSIU). This event will serve as one of the activities used to solicit industry feedback and provide awareness of the program as the Government develops the NSIU production acquisition strategy and acquisition-related documentation.
The Industry Day event will be held in advance of any anticipated draft solicitation or Request for Proposal (RFP) release. Industry Day attendance is not mandatory, nor will it limit any member of Industry from participating in any resultant acquisition. The purpose of this announcement is for information and planning purposes only; it does not constitute a solicitation or an RFP nor is it a promise to issue such a solicitation or an RFP in the future.
BACKGROUND:
The NSIU is a follow-on production contract to the current and on-going Engineering, Manufacturing and Development (EMD) effort. The EMD contract was awarded in 2022 and is currently due to complete EMD in 2027.
REQUIREMENT:
The NSIU is a Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) providing an electronic interface to allow communication between the aircraft platform and store. The NSIU is designed to update connections to meet current MIL-STD-1760 requirements and enhance nuclear hardness. AFNWC/NDB is looking for vendors with the capability to produce the NSIU to the provided specifications and quality standards as a build-to-print manufacturing effort, which will not require hardware installation.
GENERAL INFORMATION:
The Industry Day provides AFNWC/NDB an opportunity to communicate directly with interested vendors, outline government requirements and gain insight into the industries’ capabilities. During this industry day we will have briefings and Industry Engagements/One-on-Ones. The intent is to execute an in-person event.
The goal of this Industry Day is to provide potential offerors insight the program office’s expectations for NSIU production and receive feedback from industry on potential courses of action for the production effort which will feed the acquisition strategy put in place by AFNWC/NDB for this effort.
The Government anticipates the release of the solicitation in Q2 FY2027.
The Industry Day is free of charge and open to all businesses, small and large. Members of AFWNC will be present to meet one on one with Industry partners. Vendors are not required to participate in the Industry Day to submit a proposal but are highly encouraged to attend. Please note that all information given by the government during the Industry Day is subject to change and is not binding.
