Mercury and mercury-containing compounds are strictly prohibited from intentional addition or direct contact with the hardware, except for designated functional uses in batteries, lighting, instruments, sensors, weapon systems, or chemical reagents approved by NAVSEA, with portable mercury-containing devices requiring shockproof construction and a secondary containment barrier per NAVSEA 5100-003D.
