OC River Walk Project

The OC River Walk Project is a multi-purpose infrastructure initiative led by the City of Anaheim to transform a 1.5-mile stretch of the Santa Ana River corridor between Ball Road and Orangewood Avenue into a community asset. The project scope includes the installation of three inflatable rubber dams to create water impoundments, the replacement of riprap bank lining with soil cement stepped terraces, the construction of two pedestrian and bike bridges, and the expansion and improvement of the Santa Ana River Trail. These improvements are designed to enhance flood protection, groundwater recharge, water quality, and public recreational access within a project area of approximately 111 acres. The project is governed by extensive environmental and regulatory requirements, including the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and various federal and state mandates. A comprehensive Environmental Impact Report has analyzed potential effects on air quality, biological resources, hydrology, and cultural resources, with specific mitigation measures in place for sensitive habitats and tribal cultural resources. Technical specifications require that all project plans and traffic control measures be stamped by a licensed engineer and comply with Caltrans Seismic Design Criteria and ADA certifications. Implementation is planned for a timeline spanning 2026 to 2036, with oversight provided by the City of Anaheim's Community Services Department.
