SUMMARY:
The Water Survey of Canada (WSC) / Environment and Climate Change Canada - National Hydrological
Service (ECCC - NHS) was established in 1908 to provide water level and flow data to all Canadians. WSC
is the lead agency responsible for the collection, interpretation and dissemination of standardized water
resource data and information in Canada. In partnership with the Provinces, Territories, and other agencies,
there are over 400 active gauging stations in the Alberta Hydrometric Network operated under the Canada-
Alberta Memorandum of Agreement for Water Quantity Surveys between WSC and Alberta Environment
and Parks (AEP).
The hydrometric station at 05BG006 Waiparous Creek Near the Mouth is due for infrastructural
upgrades. For the continued production of discharge data and operation safety, a new passenger
operated cableway is required.
The proposed cableway will be built downstream from the previous one. Upgrades of the new cableway
design include a cableway rebuild – the required services of this project will be the installation of a 6-
meter tall heavy-duty modular A-frame, two (2) footing plates (supplied by ECCC), a new cable system
and a lightweight stand-up cable car, and supply, transport, and installation of materials and equipment
for a concrete block anchor. There will be no in-stream works; the site is road accessible.
The station’s coordinates are roughly 51.28281021°N, -114.8384094°'W.
The completion of the scope of work is anticipated within fourteen (14) weeks.
The requirement is subject to the provisions of the Canadian Free Trade Agreement (CFTA).
