Police Department Air Operations Section New Aircraft Hangar

The City of Pasadena is relocating and expanding its Air Operations Section’s aircraft storage facility by demolishing an existing 2,400 square foot hangar and constructing a new 5,000 square foot hangar on the same four-acre heliport site in northwest Pasadena. This replacement is necessitated by the need to accommodate the department’s growing fleet and the recent acquisition of a Mobile Command Center truck, which requires secure, climate-controlled storage. The new hangar will house two helicopters and the MCC truck, without permitting maintenance, fueling, or other operational activities within its walls—consistent with existing site uses. Additional improvements include expanded paved access areas and a Low Impact Development stormwater management system to meet environmental standards. The project is managed by the City of Pasadena’s Public Works department, with primary oversight from Project Manager Christina Monde and Director of Public Works Greg de Vinck. While no solicitation number has been issued, the forecasted contract is intended to support the long-standing Air Operations Section, the nation’s oldest airborne law enforcement program, established in 1969. The location remains unchanged, preserving the integrity of the operational heliport while enhancing its infrastructure to meet current and future needs. All construction activities will align with the site’s established mission, ensuring continuity of air support operations for law enforcement across the region.
