Synopsis of PGK M1156 Adding Option 3-5 to Production Contract

The Army Contracting Command-New Jersey is planning to negotiate a sole source, firm fixed price contract modification with Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems to add Options 6, 7, and 8 to the existing contract for the production of up to 30,000 M1156 Precision Guidance Kits (PGKs) per option. These PGKs are advanced guided artillery fuzes that enhance the accuracy of 155mm High Explosive projectiles, providing all-weather capability and significantly improving the precision of munitions, with accuracy goals of 30 to 50 meters Circular Error Probable. By increasing projectile accuracy, the PGK reduces the risk of casualties among U.S. soldiers and improves operational effectiveness, especially in scenarios where dispersed units face larger enemy forces. This modification is being pursued under a sole source justification, leveraging the authority that recognizes Northrop Grumman as the only responsible source for the continued production of this major system to avoid substantial duplication of government cost. The contract anticipates including First Article Acceptance Testing to validate the production quality and requires the design, development, and manufacturing of inert PGK mass simulators for testing purposes.
