The CDC plans to award a sole source purchase order to Tecan US Inc. for software updates, preventative maintenance, and on-site repair of specific laboratory equipment including the EVO 200/8 Roma Arm, Sunrise Reader, and Columbus Washer, all located at the NCID San Juan Laboratories in Puerto Rico. This procurement will be conducted under simplified acquisition procedures per FAR Part 13, with the contract period limited to one year. The sole source justification is based on Tecan’s exclusive capability to provide maintenance services for this patented equipment in line with the manufacturer's specifications, as well as their ownership of the relevant software upgrades which require authorized installation. The equipment is currently under manufacturer warranty, which is set to expire within 30 days, making continued maintenance critical to ensure the ongoing functionality of the robotic laboratory instruments essential for CDC research. There are no alternative systems to replace this equipment, underscoring the need for uninterrupted service. Although this is not a competitive solicitation, other firms capable of providing maintenance services are invited to express interest within 15 days, enabling the government to consider a competitive procurement if warranted. The designated points of contact for inquiries are Russell T. Oxford and Jeff A. Miller.
