Limerick Township is seeking proposals from qualified planning and design firms to develop a comprehensive plan for a new inclusive playground at the site of the existing Manderach Playground. The project emphasizes creating a play area that is accessible and engaging for children of all abilities, incorporating inclusive play strategies and equipment suitable for various age groups. The design must preserve the existing grand and castle-themed aesthetic, featuring elements such as the iconic big heart-shaped slides, additional toddler swings, and a non-mulch, multipurpose play surface. Accessibility is a priority, with requirements for ADA compliance, including ramps, wheelchair-accessible swings, and large slides. The proposal should also include more seating with shade for caregivers, a fence shaped like a heart (not part of the installation), and a one-way ingress and egress to facilitate supervision. Additional features include maintaining designated areas like “Lisa’s Lookout” and “Devon’s Place,” integrating donor family names into the existing picket fence, and designing a memorial area within the playground. The project aims to blend community feedback with design elements that uphold the playground’s natural and thematic integrity while ensuring safety, inclusivity, and community engagement. The contract, valued between $500,000 and $1.5 million, is part of a solicitation process with a response deadline of June 23, 2025, and is managed through the Pennsylvania PennBid platform.
