Mercury and mercury-containing compounds are strictly prohibited except in specific functional applications such as batteries, fluorescent lamps, sensors, weapon systems, and certain chemical reagents as specified by NAVSEA, with portable fluorescent lamps and instruments required to have shock-proof construction and a secondary containment boundary per SPE4A1-26-T-2145 and NAVSEA 5100-003D. Configuration change management is required through formal engineering change proposals and variance requests, and any non-accepted supplies must have government identification removed prior to disposal or return. Item Unique Identification is not required per the service customer’s request, and DFARS 252.211-7003(c)(1)(i) governs this exemption.
