The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) plans to award a sole source, firm fixed price purchase order to Abbott Molecular for the supply of reagents and kits used with the Abbott m2000 system. This system is critical for ongoing HIV diagnostic testing conducted by the CDC's HIV Diagnostics Team in support of efforts to End the HIV Epidemic in the US. Abbott Molecular is uniquely positioned as the manufacturer of both the m2000 system and the specialized reagents and amplification kits required to operate it, which are FDA-approved exclusively for this platform and not compatible with other vendors' products. These supplies are essential for continuing the established nucleic acid testing protocols and surveillance work performed at the DHP Laboratory. Given the proprietary nature of the consumables and the lack of alternative suppliers, the CDC intends to proceed under the authority allowing negotiation with a single source. While this is a sole source justification, the CDC is inviting any interested parties to express their capability to fulfill the requirement within 15 days of the notice publication, to be considered for potential competitive procurement. Responses are to be submitted by July 12, 2023, but the government retains sole discretion to proceed without competition. The contract is managed by the CDC Office of Acquisition Services and is categorized under NAICS code 541380.
