The contract aims to secure Long Term Acute Care (LTAC) services for the Atlanta VA Medical Center’s veteran population by awarding an agreement to Kindred Hospitals in Atlanta, GA. This contract is designed to address a limited provider pool and capacity constraints in the area by establishing referral arrangements within a 25-mile radius of the VA Medical Center. The services to be provided include ventilator weaning, intravenous antibiotic therapy, tracheostomy care, intensive wound management, and decannulation/pulmonary rehabilitation. It is expected that between six and twelve patients annually will require these specialized services for durations ranging from one to six months, with patients needing care beyond this period to be returned to the VAMC. Interested providers capable of offering these services with sufficient capacity were invited to submit proposals by February 22, 2008. The contract is categorized under NAICS codes 622310 and 621399, with estimated values of $31.5 million and $6.5 million respectively. If no viable proposals were received by the deadline, the government planned to proceed with awarding the contract directly to Kindred Hospitals as the most expedient solution to meet the LTAC needs of veterans in the Atlanta region.

Full Description

The Government intends to award a contract to Kindred Hospitals, located at 705 Juniper Street, NE, Atlanta, GA, for Long term Acute Care (LTAC). Due to the nature of this requirement, limited providers, and the limited capacity in the Atlanta area this approach is viewed as the most expedient way to establish services for the Atlanta VA Medical Center (VAMC) Veteran population. Our intent is to establish a referral contract with LTAC facilities within 25 miles of the VAMC that would include providing services for: ventilator weaning, IV antibiotics, tracheostomy, intensive wound management, and decannulation/pulmonary rehabilitative care. It is anticipated that approximately 6 to 12 patients a year will require services from one to six months. Individuals requiring care beyond this point will be returned to the VAMC. If you believe you can provide this service to the VAMC and will have the capacity, please contract or send your bid proposals to Rob Joshua at +1 (555) 000-0000 or contact@example.gov by 22 Feb 2008. If no viable contacts or proposals are received by this date we will proceed with award. The NAICS are 622310, $31.5M; and 621399, $6.5M.
