The Department of Veterans Affairs, National Acquisition Center, plans to award a short-term sole source "bridge" contract to Medline Industries, Inc., located in Mundelein, Illinois, for direct-to-patient distribution of certain over-the-counter medical and surgical supplies. This contract extension maintains the current service specifications and requirements without change, ensuring uninterrupted provision of critical services. The contract will have a base period of six months with two additional options of three months each, set to expire no later than June 27, 2013. The award to the incumbent is necessary due to the compressed timeframe, as a competitive procurement process is impractical without risking disruption. Medline Industries is currently performing satisfactory work, possesses the necessary infrastructure, inventory, and expertise to continue services without delay, and no other contractors are positioned to mobilize quickly or cost-effectively under these conditions. This notice serves as an announcement of the sole source intent rather than a request for competitive proposals, although the Department of Veterans Affairs will consider any capability statements submitted by June 28, 2013, solely to evaluate the possibility of competition. However, the decision to proceed without competition remains at the government's discretion. No solicitation documents or requests for proposals will be issued, and inquiries by phone will not be accepted. The designated contact for this action is Evelyn Halliburton-Shannon, reachable via email at [email hidden]. The contract pertains to NAICS code 423450 and is managed through the VA’s National Acquisition Center office located in Hines, Illinois.
