The Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division, Newport intends to award on a sole source basis a Cost Plus Fixed Fee term type contract to Ultra Electronics Ltd to provide support for the installation, testing and training of personnel for the Recoverable Tethered Optical Fibre (RTOF) submarine communication system. Under a Project Agreement (DOD-MOD-N-04-0019) between the US Navy and the Royal Navy, the US Navy is responsible for the installation and testing of the (RTOF). The Ministry of Defense awarded a competitive contract to Ultra Electronics to design, develop and construct the RTOF hardware. As the designer and builder of this hardware, Ultra is the only company capable of providing the technical support necessary to conduct all the efforts related to the installation and testing of the RTOF system.
