The Nutritional Epidemiology Branch of the National Cancer Institute is seeking to contract an experienced organization to provide technical and scientific support services for research focused on the nutritional epidemiology of cancer. The contract will emphasize two key areas: methodological research in nutritional assessment and prospective studies. The services will support ongoing epidemiologic studies, facilitate a new large-scale feasibility study, enable rapid implementation of pilot substudies, and aid in developing new dietary assessment tools and nutritional composition databases. Additionally, the contract will support biomarker development to improve dietary assessment, identify and subcontract experts in nutritional biomarker analysis, and assist with international agreements and contracts. The National Cancer Institute’s NEB will retain scientific design and research oversight, while the contract will handle operational activities such as liaising with local and international entities, designing and pilot testing study forms, managing field personnel and operations, conducting data collection and processing, and ensuring quality control. This contract is expected to be incrementally funded, cost-reimbursement based, and structured as a level-of-effort contract for a five-year period, with an estimated 35,000 hours of work. The Request for Proposal is anticipated to be issued about two weeks after the announcement posting, with proposals due roughly 30 days thereafter. The award decision is planned by late May 2007. Interested and qualified organizations are invited to submit proposals for consideration, with all required communications handled by designated contracting officials. The contract aims to significantly contribute to advancing research methodologies and data acquisition in the field of nutrition and cancer epidemiology.
