The Department of Commerce, through its National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) office in Seattle, is issuing a notice of intent to negotiate a sole source contract with the Monterey Bay Salmon and Trout Project. The contract aims to provide management support services for the coho salmon broodstock program at the Kingfisher Flat Hatchery. This includes supplying necessary materials, labor, and other related services. The contractor is uniquely qualified to operate this program as it manages the only salmonid hatchery within the Central California Coastal Ecological Significant Unit, possesses the required water supply, expertise, and holds an Endangered Species Act permit essential for maintaining the captive broodstock operation for coho salmon. The acquisition is simplified given its estimated value of under $50,000, reflecting a relatively small-scale contract focused on ensuring the continued operation and support of this critical conservation hatchery program. By working with this sole source provider, NOAA aims to maintain the health and sustainability of the coho salmon population in the region through expert management and specialized operations that are not readily available from alternative contractors.
