AI Contract Overview

This contract notice addresses a correction in the Government's initial intention to sole source services to Professional Computer Technology Associates (PCTA). It clarifies that the Symantec Quick Answers Database is owned by Symantec, not PCTA. However, since September 1998, Symantec has delegated all sales and support for the Quick Answers product to PCTA. Additionally, Lantica Software, LLC, created in June 2000, developed the Sesame Database Manager, a compatible successor to Quick Answers. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has selected the Sesame Database Manager as the platform for its next-generation VAFTP system. Due to the proprietary nature of both Quick Answers 5.0 and the Sesame Database Manager, PCTA is recognized as the sole source with the required expertise and resources to support the VA’s transition to the new VAFTP platform. This contract solidifies PCTA’s role in assisting the VA in this specialized migration, underscoring the importance of their exclusive knowledge in the continuity and support of these database management systems.

General Info

VA contracts PCTA as sole source to support migration to Sesame Database Manager platform.

Full Description

The purpose of this notice is to correct an error in the Government's initial notice of Intent to Sole Source to Professional Computer Technology Associates (PCTA). The Symantec Quick Answers Database is not a proprietary product of PCTA, but Symantec. In September of 1998, Symantec dropped all in-house sales and support for Q&A, officially referring all sales and support inquiries to Professional Computer Technology Associates (PCTA). In June 2000, Lantica Software, LLC was formed as a company to develop the Sesame Database Manager, a Q&A compatible follow-on product. VA has chosen the Sesame Database Manager product as it next generation VAFTP platform. Due to the proprietary nature of Q&A 5.0 and Sesame Database Manager applications, PCTA is the logical single source of knowledge and resources for helping VA migrate the next generation VAFTP.
