This contract seeks the development of innovative, rapid diagnostic assays aimed at addressing the critical need for early and accurate detection of multi-system autoimmune diseases. The intended diagnostic tool would enable primary care physicians to identify and predict tissue-specific manifestations of autoimmune conditions, improving patient management by facilitating timely specialist referrals. This approach leverages recent advancements in technology that allow for the detection of immune-mediated tissue stress through analysis of circulating cells and tissue-specific molecular markers. The solicitation is a total small business set-aside under the Small Business Innovation Research/Small Business Technology Transfer (SBIR/STTR) mandate, targeting companies with fewer than 500 employees. Issued by the Department of Health and Human Services through the ARPA-H agency, the contract emphasizes accelerating translational technologies that can be implemented in primary care settings. Responses to the solicitation are due by July 10, 2026, and interested parties are encouraged to explore the detailed requirements and submission guidelines on the official SBIR portal.

Full Description

The purpose of this topic is to spur the development of novel, rapid diagnostic assays for multi-system autoimmune disease, which represents an unmet healthcare need. Moreover, in its ideal embodiment this diagnostic test might allow typical primary care physicians to diagnose and predict tissue-specific autoimmune disease manifestations, thereby streamlining referral of the patient to a specialist. This goal is made more feasible by recent technological developments including the ability to detect tissue-specific signatures of immune-mediated stress by assessing circulating cells and/or tissue-specific molecular products.
