AI Contract Overview

This contract involves the demolition and disposition of Building K-33, a degraded multi-story former uranium enrichment facility located in the northwest corner of the ETTP. The scope of work includes mobilization and demobilization, the removal of corrugated transite siding, and the demolition of the 1.4 million square foot concrete and steel structure down to the slab. The project also requires the packaging and transportation of all associated wastes to onsite Department of Energy disposal facilities. Due to its operational history from 1954 to 1985, the facility contains significant radiological and chemical contamination, as well as hazardous wastes, asbestos, and polychlorinated biphenyls. To expedite the procurement process and reduce timelines, the Department of Energy awarded this task order under the existing EM Nationwide Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity Multiple Award Task Order Contracts rather than through full and open competition.

The facility was constructed in 1954 as a uranium enrichment facility and was operated from 1954 to 1985. Today, the K-33 facility still contains radiological and chemical contamination, hazardous wastes, asbestos, and polychlorinated biphenyl's (PCB) contamination.
