REGIONAL ELECTRICITY MARKET ASSISTANCE PROGRAM PHASE II

The Regional Electricity Market Assistance Program (REMAP) initiated by USAID Central Asia aims to support improved water and energy resource management across Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, with some engagement from Afghanistan. Beginning in September 2008, this program is designed to span three years with an optional two-year extension. Building on the initial phase carried out by the U.S. Energy Association since August 2006, which proved the feasibility of advancing market-based approaches to energy and water challenges, REMAP Phase II continues this effort under a contract procured through a competitive full and open process. Managed by USAID's office in Almaty, Kazakhstan, REMAP intends to foster economic and social development through strengthened regional electricity market frameworks. The solicitation, identified as EG176-08-009, was announced in May 2008, with a draft Request for Proposals issued on May 23.
