The U.S. Air Force is planning a sole-source award to Oxford Instruments America, Inc. for the repair and calibration of an Oxford EDS UltimMax 100 detector at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, under solicitation number IASS-AFRL-RIZ-2026-0026. This action is justified under FAR 12.201-2, as Oxford Instruments America is the only entity with the proprietary tools, software, and certified personnel required to perform the work on the OEM-specific detector, which must be restored to full operational capability and seamlessly integrated with the Hitachi NX9000 scanning electron microscope. The requirement is classified under NAICS code 811210, and no set-aside for small businesses or other socioeconomic categories applies; the vendor is confirmed as not a small business. The performance location is primarily Building 1169 at Eglin AFB, with off-site repair allowed at the contractor’s facility, but final reinstallation and calibration must occur on-site. The estimated labor includes 8 hours for removal, 6 hours for reinstallation, and 2 hours for calibration. The government will accept responses only via email to michael.hornberger.1@us.af.mil with the subject line “Repair & Calibrate EDS Detector,” and submissions must be received by 9:00 AM Eastern Time on July 1, 2026. Only PDF, DOC, DOCX, XLS, or XLSX files are permitted as attachments; EXE and ZIP files will be filtered out. Award is based solely on technical acceptability and compliance with OEM performance standards, with no formal pricing data or cost estimate publicly available in the solicitation, though a sole-source justification document exists internally. No contract clauses from FAR 52.2 are listed, and no payment office, COR, COTR, or invoicing method is specified beyond the contracting office address at AFRL/RIZ, Wright-Patterson AFB.

Notice of Intent to Sole Source 60-ton Crane Repair
Solicitation # FA4626-SoleSource-CraneRepair
The Department of the Air Force, through the 341st Contracting Squadron, intends to award a sole-source contract to MGX Equipment Services, LLC for the complex repair of a 2007 Grove TMS700E 60-ton crane (AF Registration 07D00453) supporting the 819th Red Horse Squadron at Malmstrom Air Force Base. The asset is currently undrivable due to a hydraulic leak requiring major drive-train disassembly and the replacement of a 5-port hydraulic swivel manifold assembly. To certify the crane as fully functional, the scope of work includes replacing the wire rope, o-rings, fill cap with breather, element, lock pin, seal kit, and slip ring assembly, as well as performing structural inspections by authorized Grove technicians. All repairs must adhere to OEM specifications as identified in Technical Order 36-1-191. Because the crane cannot be driven and the government lacks a sufficiently large transport trailer, the asset must be transported to the MGX Equipment Services facility in Billings, Montana. The estimated total cost for the project is 53,565.41, which covers parts, labor, and return transportation. This requirement is being solicited as a sole-source action because MGX Equipment Services is the only known authorized dealer in Montana with the necessary capabilities and infrastructure to perform these specific repairs. Interested parties were requested to submit capability statements or quotations by September 25, 2026, to demonstrate if competition would be advantageous to the government.
