AI Contract Overview
The Federal Bureau of Prisons plans to issue a firm-fixed-price construction contract for the replacement of the condensate tank system at the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC) in Chicago, Illinois. The project involves the complete replacement of two aging condensate receiver tanks, associated pipework, and three pumps that move condensate from the tanks to the boilers. One of the two original tanks, installed in 1975, is currently offline due to an unrepairable leak, necessitating full replacement of both tanks and related equipment. The work must be completed during non-winter months to minimize disruption to steam demand, with a performance period of 155 calendar days from the notice to proceed. This procurement is a 100 percent small business set-aside under NAICS code 238220, with an estimated contract value between $100,000 and $250,000. Interested contractors must be registered in the System for Award Management (SAM) and meet the small business size standard of $19 million. Access to solicitation documents will be available exclusively through SAM, with the solicitation expected to be posted around March 2, 2026. All updates and amendments will also be distributed via the SAM website, and potential offerors are advised to monitor it closely. The contract will be awarded directly to the prime contractor, as the Bureau of Prisons does not engage with subcontractors.
