Contract Overview
Solicitation details, issuing organization, response deadlines, documents, and interested companies for this government contract opportunity.
AI Contract Overview
The Department of the Air Force has issued a Request for Information to identify qualified industry partners capable of supporting an expedited Engineering and Manufacturing Development phase and subsequent production of a new external weapons release pylon for the B-52 aircraft. The project focuses on developing an Advanced Wing Weapons Pylon (AWWP) that integrates MIL-STD-1760 series heavy weapon capabilities to meet emerging mission requirements. The targeted timeline includes a 36-month EMD phase concluding with a Critical Design Review, after which the design should be ready for immediate production and integration with support equipment. The production phase anticipates delivering between 20 and 24 pylons, with a minimum of 12 units required within the first year following EMD completion. The Air Force is seeking industry feedback to assess the feasibility of the proposed schedule and identify vendors with the technical expertise to design and manufacture heavy weapons carriage systems capable of handling loads above 5,000 pounds. Input gathered will be used to inform the overall acquisition strategy. While the place of performance is primarily Edwards, California, physical work locations may vary, and willing travel is expected. Small businesses are especially encouraged to respond. The solicitation, categorized under NAICS code 336413, was posted on May 6, 2026, with a response deadline of July 6, 2026. The points of contact for this request are Ashley Gray and Matthew Lesko at the Department of Defense office located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio.

Full Description
The Department of the Air Force is issuing this Request for Information (RFI) to conduct market research and identify qualified industry partners capable of supporting an accelerated Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase and subsequent production of a replacement external weapons release pylon for the B-52 aircraft.
To meet emerging mission needs, the Government requires a newly designed Advanced Wing Weapons Pylon (AWWP) that incorporates MIL-STD-1760 series heavy weapon capability.
The anticipated acquisition strategy targets a 36-month EMD phase culminating in a Critical Design Review (CDR). Upon successful completion of the EMD phase, the design must be ready for integration with required support equipment, transitioning immediately into the production of 20 to 24 pylons (with a minimum delivery of 12 pylons in the first year).
Key Objectives for Industry Feedback:
-
Assess the feasibility of the proposed 36-month EMD timeline to CDR and production timeline.
-
Identify vendors with the engineering expertise to design and manufacture heavy weapons carriage systems (>5,000 lbs capacity).
-
Inform the Government's overall Acquisition Strategy.
Note: Physical work locations may vary, and interested parties must be willing and able to travel. Small businesses are highly encouraged to participate and respond to this RFI.
