RIV 10 Road Weather Information System (RWIS) Repair: EA 08-1R570/ PN 0825000085

The RIV 10 Road Weather Information System (RWIS) Repair project, identified by EA 08-1R570 and PN 0825000085, involves the installation of a new Road Weather Information System and Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras along State Route 10 in Riverside County. Managed by Caltrans District 8, the project aims to replace stolen equipment to provide motorists with essential road weather and traffic information. The work limits extend from approximately postmile 34.8, east of Indian Canyon Drive, to postmile 48.4, west of Washington Street, with performance locations situated in Thousand Palms and Desert Hot Springs. All construction activities will take place within the Public Right of Way, and the estimated duration for the project is 40 working days. The technical scope of work includes installing a new service pedestal with a foundation, establishing connections via a 4-inch conduit with conductors placed 30 inches below grade, and constructing a 24-inch long by 4-inch-thick concrete pad in front of the Type III-BF service cabinet foundation. In unpaved areas, the foundation will be set 2 inches above grade. The project is funded entirely by state funds and has received a CEQA Class 3(d) categorical exemption and a NEPA categorical exclusion, as it is located in previously disturbed areas with no anticipated significant environmental impacts. While no utility relocations are expected, an encroachment permit may be required during construction because the service cabinet is located within the Public Right of Way but outside the State Right of Way.
