Solicitation # 2139681
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is administering the 2026 Volunteer Fire Capacity Grant Program, funded by a federal appropriation of 857,629 dollars. This program provides matching grants to eligible rural fire departments for the purchase of wildland firefighting suppression supplies. To be eligible, departments must be comprised of at least 80 percent volunteer personnel and serve a rural area, defined as a town or village with a population of 10,000 or less based on the 2020 Census. Grant funds must be used for items directly related to wildland firefighting that benefit the local rural community, with a restriction that no individual item exceeds 9,999 dollars. Selection is based on the department's funding history over the previous five years, whether it is a newly formed establishment, and the presence of a Native American community within its jurisdiction. The program operates under federal guidelines from the US Forest Service and the Cooperative Forestry Assistance Act of 1978. Applications are accepted through December 30, 2026. This solicitation does not have specific goals for Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned, Minority, Women, or Disadvantaged Business Enterprises.
