San Diego City College Facilities Master Plan

The San Diego Community College District is implementing the San Diego City College Facilities Master Plan to address campus growth and aging infrastructure across its 44-acre campus in San Diego, California. The project involves the demolition of existing facilities and the construction of approximately 735,000 gross square feet of modern facilities and 680 new parking spaces. Key near-term deliverables include the Building A Expansion, a Performing Arts Center, and North Campus Athletic Fields, while long-term goals encompass additional classroom and office spaces, a student commons building, a high school replacement, and various utility and circulation improvements. As the plan is conceptual, final architectural designs will be developed during implementation in coordination with user groups. The project is governed by the California Environmental Quality Act, requiring a Program Environmental Impact Report to assess environmental effects, including air quality, noise, and transportation. Special requirements include full-time on-site archaeological monitoring during excavation, strict confidentiality of tribal cultural resources per California Government Code, and compliance with ADA and CBC seismic standards. Coordination with Caltrans is required for impacts on state facilities and rights-of-way, and all construction must adhere to City of San Diego Stormwater Standards and regional water quality controls.
