San Mateo 101 Bridge Deck Overlay/ Preservation

The project involves comprehensive preservation and rehabilitation work on the San Mateo 101 bridge, focusing on deck improvements and safety enhancements. Key activities include overlaying the existing bridge decks with polyester concrete to extend service life, patching spalled areas, replacing or repairing type 9 barriers, and replacing joint seals. All hinges will have their joints fully reconstructed to ensure structural integrity, while new approach structures and concrete barrier transitions are to be constructed to improve connectivity and safety at bridge ends. Metal beam guard rail will be removed and replaced with the Midwest Guardrail System at designated locations to meet current safety standards. This work is being managed by Caltrans District 4 – Bay Area/Oakland and is set to take place in South San Francisco, California. The project is currently in the forecasting stage, with public notice posted on October 28, 2025.
