San Ysidro High School Gym Roof and HVAC Replacement Project

The Sweetwater Union High School District is undertaking a comprehensive renovation of the gymnasium at San Ysidro High School located at 5353 Airway Road in San Diego, California, to replace its aging roof and outdated HVAC system. The project involves installing a new single-ply roof assembly compliant with Title 24 energy standards, removing and replacing deteriorated flashing, curbs, and drainage components, and reinforcing the structural framing as needed to support the new mechanical equipment. A new rooftop HVAC system will be installed along with associated ductwork, electrical circuits, conduits, controls, and both primary and overflow roof drains to resolve existing water management issues. Additional safety upgrades include a new roof access hatch, guardrail system, exterior ladder improvements, roof walk pads, and fall-protection tie-off posts to ensure compliance with OSHA standards for safe roof access and maintenance. The scope of work is strictly limited to the existing gymnasium rooftop area with no expansion of the building footprint, student capacity, or operational hours. The project will not alter the functional use of the gymnasium and will remain entirely contained within the current structure. All construction activities are designed to modernize and improve the building’s mechanical and envelope systems while maintaining its original purpose and spatial configuration. The contracting authority for this initiative is the Sweetwater Union High School District, with Jason Brust, Director of Planning and Construction, serving as the primary point of contact for inquiries related to the project.
