Santa Rosa Demonstration Project at High Injury Intersections

The City of Santa Rosa is planning temporary traffic calming demonstrations at high injury intersections within its city limits, aiming to improve safety through low-cost, non-permanent interventions. Treatments will include painted buffers, centerline hardening, and bulb outs enhanced with materials such as paint, armadillos, curb stops, flex posts, and K71 bollards, all installed within the existing public right-of-way on city streets. These measures are designed to be temporary and reversible, allowing for evaluation of their effectiveness in reducing traffic speeds and improving pedestrian and cyclist safety without permanent alterations to the roadway. The project is forecasted for posting on June 10, 2026, and is being managed by the City of Santa Rosa’s Transportation Department, with Torina Wilson, Transportation Planner, serving as the primary point of contact. All work will occur within Santa Rosa, California, and no permanent changes to infrastructure are anticipated. The initiative seeks to gather real-world data on the impact of these temporary treatments to inform future long-term safety improvements across the city's transportation network.
