This National Science Foundation SBIR Phase II award supports the development of a modular ultrasonic transducer array designed to modernize industrial dewatering infrastructure. By utilizing high efficiency, solid state acoustic moisture extraction, the project aims to replace traditional thermal evaporation methods and overcome the limitations of presses and centrifuges, which typically cannot extract moisture below 40 to 50 percent. This shift toward direct electrification is expected to reduce subsystem energy consumption by more than half and significantly decrease drying times. The project focuses on bridging the gap between laboratory success and factory implementation by creating a fully operational pilot scale system for integration into industrial processing lines. The technology specifically targets high demand dewatering needs within the agriculture, forestry, and textile industries. Commercially, the innovation positions itself within a global industrial dryer market projected to reach 13.4 billion dollars by 2035, aiming to increase production volume and operational efficiency for American industrial plants.

Full Description

The broader/commercial impact of this Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase II project is the transformation of industrial dewatering infrastructure through the deployment of high efficiency, solid-state acoustic moisture extraction to replace century-old thermal evaporation methods. Established industrial fluid extractors, such as presses and centrifuges, cannot practically extract moisture content below 40-50%. This limitation traditionally has mandated the use of costly and slow gas-based thermal drying. The proposed technology will enable direct electrification of the drying process, reducing energy consumption by more than half at the subsystem level and cutting drying times significantly. Commercially, the innovation targets the global industrial dryer sector, valued at $8.2 billion in 2025 and projected to reach $13.4 billion by 2035. This technology enables greater operational efficiency and production volume for American industrial plants. This Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase II project will support the development of a modular ultrasonic transducer array for integration into industrial processing lines. Building on prior Phase I development demonstrating mechanical fluid transport via a proprietary dynamic mechanism, this project seeks to bridge the laboratory to factory gap to achieve a fully operational pilot scale system. The resulting system will be targeted towards high-demand dewatering in the textile, agriculture, and forestry processing industries. This award reflects NSF's statutory mission and has been deemed worthy of support through evaluation using the Foundation's intellectual merit and broader impacts review criteria.

Request for Information (RFI): Verification and Compliance Checking for Natural-Language Network Requirements (FastVacc)
Solicitation # DARPA-SN-27-13
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Information Processing Techniques Office (IPTO) has issued a Request for Information (RFI) under solicitation number DARPA-SN-27-13 titled Verification and Compliance Checking for Natural-Language Network Requirements (FastVacc). The agency is seeking information on tools, practices, and approaches to reduce the time and cost of verifiable compliance checking for network security requirements by two to three orders of magnitude. The objective is to develop a capability that can process natural-language requirements documents, such as Zero Trust Architecture or Commercial Solutions for Classified packages, and concrete network configurations to identify inconsistencies, redundancies, and incompleteness in an offline phase, while providing near real-time verification of configurations with human-understandable output. This RFI is not a formal solicitation for proposals and does not constitute a binding contract. Interested respondents must submit their information by November 13, 2026, via email to [email hidden]. Submissions should consist of a one-page narrative and up to two slides featuring visual depictions of key concepts, including a completed version of Table 1. All responses must be submitted at the unclassified level in unprotected Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, or PDF formats, adhering to specific formatting guidelines including 12-point font and one-inch margins. Any proprietary information must be clearly labeled as Proprietary, and the use of the term Confidential is strictly prohibited for proprietary business data.

FTA Broad Agency Announcement (FY26) -- “Research Initiatives in Support of Safety, Accessibility, and Mobility in Public Transportation
Solicitation # 693195-26-BAA-0001
The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Office of Research, Demonstration, and Innovation has issued a Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) soliciting applied research projects to enhance the safety, reliability, efficiency, and accessibility of public transportation in the United States. This unrestricted solicitation is open to any responsible source, excluding Federal Government-owned businesses, and encourages teaming and collaboration. The program focuses on technology readiness levels 3 through 6, with a preference for proof-of-concept testing. Research topics include community connectivity, accessibility for automated vehicles, urban rail innovations, ferry safety, and transit safety data analytics. Individual awards typically range from $150,000 to $500,000, and while cost sharing is not mandatory, projects that include transit operator partnerships and cost sharing are preferred. The selection process follows a two-step approach requiring an initial concept paper and project quad chart, followed by a detailed technical and cost proposal if invited. Following Amendment 0002, the due date for submissions has been extended to November 6, 2026. Awards are anticipated as firm-fixed-price or level-of-effort term contracts, though cost-reimbursable contracts may be considered with justification. Evaluation is based on a trade-off process where technical merit and importance to agency programs are significantly more important than cost. Successful contractors must comply with strict reporting requirements, including a Data Management Plan, semi-annual Technology Transfer Reports, and a final technical report that is 100 percent Section 508 compliant. Administrative requirements include mandatory electronic invoicing via the DELPHI iSupplier system and adherence to NIST SP 800-171 for protecting controlled unclassified information.

Bolstering Underutilized Industry by Leveraging Technology Transfer (BUILTT) pilot program
Solicitation # 10292026-LR-27
The Department of Energy, in partnership with the National Nuclear Security Administration, has announced the Bolstering Underutilized Industry by Leveraging Technology Transfer (BUILTT) pilot program. This initiative, conducted by the Nevada National Security Sites, Y-12 National Security Complex, and Kansas City National Security Campus, aims to assist qualified U.S. small and medium-sized businesses in manufacturing low-volume, high-impact technologies developed by DOE/NNSA Labs, Plants, and Sites. These technologies, which include specialized optical imaging, radiation and chemical sensing systems, precision electrical components, and advanced materials, often have limited commercial markets but are critical for government mission requirements. Under the program, selected businesses may receive a Cost Reduction License (CRL) for a nominal fee, granting them the rights to produce specified technologies for sale to the DOE, NNSA, and other government customers at pre-negotiated prices. Eligibility is limited to U.S.-based SMBs, with preference given to those near participating sites or those with SBA 8(a) or HUBZone designations. Interested parties are evaluated based on their technical and manufacturing capabilities, financial capacity, and ability to meet regulatory and security requirements. Responses must be submitted to the Technology Partnerships and Intellectual Property Office by April 1, 2027, and are categorized under NAICS code 541715.
