School-Based Interventions

The North Dakota Juvenile Justice State Advisory Group (SAG) is offering financial backing for drafting and executing school-based interventions to manage student behavioral challenges. Formed under the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Act, SAG underscores community-led efforts to deter juvenile delinquency. Emphasizing the importance of a nurturing and secure educational atmosphere, the SAG aims to engage at-risk youth in schooling and avert their entry into the juvenile justice system. This contract calls for the deployment of precise intervention strategies across elementary, middle, and high schools in North Dakota to manage student behavior. Proposals should prioritize evidence-based practices that promote positive student conduct and mitigate negative behaviors through strategies such as restorative justice, teen court, Check and Connect, Building Assets Reducing Risks, parent training, and mentoring. The SAG's support will focus on initiatives designed to decrease disciplinary measures, law enforcement citations, suspensions, and expulsions while fostering positive behavior, enhancing family involvement, improving student attendance and academic performance, and enriching the school environment. Implementation timelines necessitate planning in the spring of 2025 and the rollout of interventions in the fall of 2025, with full funding utilization required by September 30, 2028. The interventions will be executed in various school locations throughout North Dakota.
