Full Description

USAID/Tanzania is implementing an energy program which began under the United States Government's (USG) Partnership for Growth (PFG) initiative and continues under the Power Africa (PA) initiative. Under PFG, the Government of Tanzania (GoT) and the USG agreed on a Joint Country Action Plan (JCAP) to address the constraint to economic growth caused by the underperforming Tanzania power sector. The JCAP covers a range of activities in the Tanzania power sector, including to: (1) establish a cost-reflective tariff structure; (2) reduce transmission and distribution losses; (3) strengthen legal and regulatory institutions; (4) improve power sector planning; (5) increase key power sector institutional capacities; and (6) promote private investment in power. Under the PA Initiative, launched in June 2013, President Obama announced the USG's commitment to double access to double the number of people in sub-Saharan Africa with access to electricity through a multi-stakeholder partnership, in particular engaging the Governments of Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria and Tanzania (the original PA focus countries), twelve Agencies of the US Government (USG), private sector investors, the World Bank and African Development Bank, and other public and private partners. the Tanzania Senior Energy Advisor will perform a senior leadership role in managing the implementation of the USAID/Tanzania energy program and in providing technical assistance and policy support to the GoT counterparts, including Ministry of Energy and Minerals (MEM), the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA), the Tanzania Electricity Supply Company Ltd. (TANESCO), the Zanzibar Electricity Corporation (ZECO), the Rural Energy Agency (REA), and the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) and other GOT power-related agencies, as well as support to the BRN Presidential Delivery Bureau.
