Full Description

The USAID health program supports the provision of primary health services to roughly 50% of Haiti's population through a network of 150 NGO and Ministry of Health (MOH) health centers; a social marketing project that distributes and promotes the use of contraceptives, oral rehydration salts and a safe water product; a nation-wide community health project that provides services through community centers and home-based care; support to the MOH to strengthen provincial and central level Directorates, including the National TB Control Program, the National HIV/AIDS Program, and the National Reproductive and Maternal Health Program, with a focus on health systems (drug and commodity supply chain management, health information, financial and administrative management). USAID health funds are used to achieve specific results in child immunization, nutrition, family planning and other reproductive health services, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS. PEPFAR HIV/AIDS funding is allocated, for the most part, to projects that also implement non-HIV/AIDS funds with the purpose of achieving an integrated approach to health care delivery, integration of income generation with community care for families living with HIV and AIDS and ensuring that HIV/AIDS is integrated into educational programs, cash-for-work programs and human rights programs.
