The Certification and Engineering Bureau (CEB) requires hardware and software upgrades for its CMX500 base station simulator. The upgraded CMX500 system will serve as a standalone measurement platform, expanding CEB’s ability to:
• Conduct proactive market surveillance to verify wireless product compliance with Canadian regulations;
• Perform advanced engineering assessments to support the development of domestic and international standards;
• Ensure wireless devices do not cause harmful interference to other systems;
• Facilitate timely market access for compliant products, contributing to a fair and competitive wireless marketplace; and
• Protect Canadian consumers by ensuring safe and reliable wireless equipment is available in the market.
The proposed enhancements will complete the system’s capabilities, creating an independent measurement platform that supports the full range of 5G FR1 and FR2 spectrum currently available in Canada, while adding hardware for emerging 5G FR3 bands. This upgrade strengthens the CEB’s capacity for both RF interference and RF exposure testing on FR1 products using the CMX, and expands its ability to evaluate advanced 5G FR2 mmWave-enabled products, such as next-generation smartphones, anticipated to enter the Canadian market
