2026 Volunteer Fire Capacity Grant
Solicitation # 2139681
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is administering the 2026 Volunteer Fire Capacity Grant Program, funded by a federal appropriation of 857,629 dollars. This program provides matching grants to eligible rural fire departments for the purchase of wildland firefighting suppression supplies. To be eligible, departments must be comprised of at least 80 percent volunteer personnel and serve a rural area, defined as a town or village with a population of 10,000 or less based on the 2020 Census. Selected departments can receive a maximum award of 3,500 dollars, which must be matched 50/50 by the recipient. Grant funds must be used for items directly related to wildland firefighting that benefit the local rural community, with a restriction that no individual item exceeds 9,999 dollars. Selection is based on the department's funding history over the previous five years, whether it is a newly formed establishment, and the presence of a Native American community within its jurisdiction. The program operates under federal guidelines from the US Forest Service and the Cooperative Forestry Assistance Act of 1978. Applications are accepted through December 30, 2026. This solicitation does not have specific goals for Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned, Minority, Women, or Disadvantaged Business Enterprises. All inquiries and applications are managed by the Volunteer Fire Capacity Grant Coordinator within the Division of Forest Protection.

The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind (FSDB) is seeking to establish a five-year maintenance and service contract valued at up to $1,587,000 to support and maintain its existing Honeywell International EBI fire alarm and access control systems. The contract covers proprietary hardware and software components, including EBI operator’s terminals, servers, communications gateways, and fire alarm panels. The intended source for this contract is Honeywell International, Inc., as the provider is uniquely qualified to service these systems due to their proprietary nature, specialized training, and the fact that the systems were originally installed by Honeywell technicians. The justification for a single-source acquisition emphasizes that only Honeywell’s certified personnel possess the necessary expertise, access to system documentation, and technical support to ensure proper maintenance and repair. The procurement process is documented under solicitation number SS-08048, with a response deadline of March 13, 2024. The contract aims to ensure ongoing system integrity and compliance through authorized Honeywell technicians who are familiar with the specific components and software, thereby minimizing risks associated with system downtime or malfunction. This contract underscores the importance of maintaining proprietary and specialized fire safety and access control systems through a trusted, certified provider to ensure safety and operational reliability.
