The US Army Robert Morris Acquisition Center-Natick Contracting Division is seeking to award a sole source purchase order to Research Triangle Institute (RTI) for specialized test services related to chemical protective garments. This acquisition supports the Special Operations Forces Special Projects Team and involves the use of a modified commercial test protocol for evaluating the aerosol penetration of chemical protective clothing ensembles. The modified protocol, known as the Test Operating Procedure (TOP) for System Level Aerosol Testing, was originally developed for the Marine Corps System Command’s Joint Services Lightweight Integrated Suit Technology program to incorporate more rigorous data analysis standards. The testing procedure measures the deposition rate of non-toxic, fluorescent-tagged silica aerosol particles on human skin protected by prototype chemical protective ensembles, ensuring the garments meet stringent protective criteria. RTI has significant experience with this specific type of testing, having worked with the Marine Corps System Command and Dugway Proving Ground since 1996, positioning it as uniquely qualified for this contract. The acquisition notice was posted on August 9, 2004, and the solicitation closes at 5 PM Eastern Standard Time on August 13, 2004. Questions regarding the contract can be directed to Vincenzo Valastro at the Natick Contracting Division.
