The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division is conducting a market survey to gather information on available Small Arms Weapons Simulators (SAWS) that are Commercial-Off-The-Shelf, Non-Developmental, or In-Development. These simulators are expected to accurately replicate small arms weapons in the U.S. Navy inventory, covering calibers from 9mm to .50 caliber. Key capabilities sought include realistic weight and size replication, non-functioning or demilled weapon status for ease of physical security, and precise simulation of weapon operations such as recoil, sound (below 84dB), automatic fire, reloading, and malfunctions. The simulators should be untethered, portable, and capable of use in various training environments including classrooms, ships, and field conditions, simulating various targets and operational scenarios with video interactivity, shoot-back functions, and diagnostic feedback for instructors. Additional desired features include multi-user support for simultaneous engagement, detailed hit location tracking, scenario flexibility with integration of new CGI/video content, and the ability to simulate non-lethal weapons and environmental factors such as weather and CBRN conditions. Submissions in the form of white papers are requested to provide technical and business information, including company capabilities, experience, manufacturing facilities, and rough order of magnitude costs, along with descriptions of system training and support. This announcement is strictly a solicitation of information and not a commitment to procure or award a contract. Responses are due by 15 March 2011, with contact and submission details provided by the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division.
