Full Description

The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) will conduct maintenance activities at two separate areas along the Southeast Bay Outfall (SEO) pipeline at Pier 80 in the City and County of San Francisco. The maintenance activities include the installation of new settlement monitors below the top of bank immediately north of Islais Creek and the repair of existing pipeline beneath the pier in San Francisco Bay. New settlement monitors (up to five) will be installed along the 60-inch reinforced concrete cylinder pipe portion of the SEO pipeline. One settlement monitor will be installed just west of Illinois Street in Tulare Park near the shoreline, and four settlement monitors will be installed just east of Illinois Street near the shoreline. About five 2-foot diameter by 5-foot-deep excavations (2.5 cubic yards total) will be required to install the new settlement monitors, which will have a concrete cap and be flush with the ground surface upon completion of installation. Pipeline repair will be conducted on the 54-inch portion of the SEO near the end of Pier 80 along the underside of the pier. The repair includes an internal mechanical seal replacement at the joint, installation of a pipe strap, restraining rod repair, and installation of corrosion protection. The pipe strap, restraining rod, and corrosion protection components will be completed when the work area is exposed at low tide. The repair area will be accessed by a boat, which will be dispatched from either a dock near Islais Creek Booster Pump Station or from Pier 80 via a temporary support crane to launch and extract working boats. None of the pipeline repair work will require ground disturbance.
