The U.S. Army Tank-Automotive Research, Development, and Engineering Center is seeking to qualify lubricating oil products that meet the requirements of the MIL-PRF-2104G specification, which pertains to internal combustion engine oils for combat and tactical service. Since the MIL-PRF-2104G standard was replaced by MIL-PRF-2104H in 2004, but there currently are insufficient qualified products meeting the MIL-PRF-2104H standard, the Army is temporarily accepting product qualifications against the older MIL-PRF-2104G specification for at least two years, or until June 1, 2008. Manufacturers, suppliers, and marketers are invited to submit products for qualification under either the MIL-PRF-2104G or MIL-PRF-2104H standards. Products that qualify under the newer MIL-PRF-2104H specification will be included in both the MIL-PRF-2104G Qualified Products List (QPL) and automatically transferred to the MIL-PRF-2104H QPL after the two-year acceptance period. This action aims to maintain a supply of qualified lubricating oils needed for military vehicles until a sufficient catalog of products meeting the latest standards is established. Interested parties can access specifications through the ASSIST Quick Search portal and are encouraged to submit qualification testing information. Further questions about the process or the standards can be directed to the point of contact, Mr. Allen Comfort at the U.S. Army TACOM-Warren facility. Qualification test details will be made available on the TACOM-Warren PROC-NET under Special Notice DEV-2006-07. This announcement was posted in June 2006 by the Department of Defense at the Detroit Arsenal in Michigan.
