The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), District 4, plans to replace two aging culverts along State Route 116 in Sonoma County near Sebastopol to improve drainage and structural integrity. The first replacement occurs at Gilchrist Road (PM 32.33), where the existing 12-inch corrugated metal pipe will be removed and substituted with a larger 18-inch corrugated steel pipe, accompanied by a new drainage inlet and flared outlet section. The second culvert, located 0.1 mile east of Lone Pine Road (PM 30.41), will be swapped out with a new 12-inch culvert to maintain consistent drainage capacity. Construction activities will involve standard heavy equipment such as asphalt concrete trucks, grinders, loaders, pavers, and rollers to handle roadway resurfacing and earthwork. To minimize disruption, one-way traffic control will be enforced during the work period, ensuring safety for both workers and drivers. The project is officially listed under SR-116 Culvert Replacement Project (EA 04-0V180) and was posted as a forecast on June 29, 2026, with direct inquiries directed to Juliane Smith, Senior Environmental Scientist at Caltrans.
