SR-118 Reactive Safety Project

The California Department of Transportation, District 7 – Los Angeles, is planning a reactive safety project on State Route 118 at the westbound Hayvenhurst off-ramp in Los Angeles to enhance pedestrian accessibility and traffic safety. The project will upgrade curb ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards and install six new traffic signal poles equipped with Accessible Pedestrian Signals featuring Leading Pedestrian Intervals. Additional improvements include high-visibility crosswalk striping, updated pavement markings and markers, loop detectors for vehicle detection, an electrical controller cabinet, and signal interconnection between the Hayvenhurst Avenue and Rinaldi Street intersection and the proposed signal at the off-ramp. A closed-circuit television camera system will also be deployed to support traffic monitoring and management. These upgrades aim to significantly improve safety and mobility for all road users, particularly pedestrians and individuals with disabilities, by ensuring compliance with current accessibility requirements and modern traffic control technologies.
