SR 152 Intersection Control Improvement (10-1Q040)

Caltrans District 10 plans to improve traffic flow and safety at a key intersection on State Route 152 approximately 2.5 miles west of Los Banos in Merced County by constructing a roundabout between 0.3 miles west and 0.3 miles east of Volta Road, spanning from PM 15.9 to 16.5. The project will include two travel lanes in each direction with a center left turn lane, 4-foot shoulders on both sides, and comprehensive pedestrian and cyclist accessibility features such as sidewalks, bike ramps, and curb ramps. Additional infrastructure will consist of drainage systems including inlets, culverts, outlets, ditches, and basins, along with flashing beacons and street lighting to enhance visibility and safety. A temporary detour to the south of the intersection will be implemented during construction, and the project may require acquiring additional right-of-way and relocating utilities as needed.
