AI Contract Overview
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Indian Health Service, Bemidji Area intends to award a sole-source Firm Fixed Price contract to Steris Corporation for the repair, maintenance, and preventive servicing of medical sterilization equipment at the Red Lake and Cass Lake Service Units in Minnesota. The contract covers a base period plus four optional years, with an estimated total value of $532,688.64, and is justified under FAR 6.302-1 due to Steris being the only authorized and capable service provider for its proprietary equipment, including AMSCO 400 sterilizers, AMSCO 3052 and 2532 washers, drying cabinets, filter systems, chemistry dosing systems, and ultrasonic cleaners. Steris retains exclusive access to the internal programming and service software required to perform these services, and no other entities can legally or technically service this equipment, making competition infeasible. The North American Industry Classification System code is 811210, and the Product/Service Code is J065. Preventive maintenance must be performed four times annually, and services will be delivered on-site at the two service locations. The contract does not include a detailed line-item pricing structure, nor are there specific packaging, marking, or inspection standards defined beyond adherence to manufacturer protocols and the established maintenance schedule. The contracting officer, Jennifer Richardson, and point of contact, Mary Simon, are responsible for managing the award process, with responses to the notice of intent due by June 2, 2026. The justification for sole sourcing includes compliance with brand-name procurement rules under FAR 11.105 and has undergone appropriate legal, competition, and oversight reviews as required by federal acquisition regulations. No socioeconomic or small business set-asides apply, and no formal contract clauses, representations from the offeror, or invoicing details are specified in the documentation.
