INTRODUCTION: California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly) is a 4-year accredited university founded in 1901. Originally a vocational and technical school, Cal Poly evolved into a renowned educational institution, known the world over as the school of “learn by doing.” The University is experiencing enrollment demand coupled with an increase in student population. Academic and support services must grow concurrently to ensure the level of quality in services that our students deserve. There will be separate contractual agreements with the Design-Builder for each phase. PROJECT BACKGROUND: The Cal Poly Student Success Center (SSC) generally consists of programming, design and construction of an approximately 30,000 to 40,000 gsf new multistory building. The SSC is to include space for student affairs programs and University classrooms; site improvements such as relocation of existing utility infrastructure and providing new as needed utility infrastructure, landscape/hardscape improvements adjacent to the building as well as integrated into the bordering campus sites. A further developed target scope and refined building location will be determined through collaborative project definition activities during Phase 1 Design and Preconstruction services. The Student Success Center will feature a professional development center for career services, student diversity and belonging cultural centers, and programs that support Cal Poly’s growing first-generation and diverse student body. The project will add both formal and informal activity space as well as add new university lecture rooms to support the university’s planned growth of enrollment and on-campus population. ARCHITECT OF RECORD SELECTION PROCESS: The University and Design-Build Contractor will evaluate the Architectural A3 SOQs and will shortlist Finalists that will be invited to respond to the Request for Proposals. RFQ responses should provide information that addresses each section of the RFQ Evaluation Criteria. Each section will be scored by the University and Design-Build Contractor based on the quality of the response and in accordance with the listed criteria. When describing experience with comparable projects, indicate if the experience is of the firm and/or the individual team members proposed for this project. RFQ Responses should be in the A3 format and be concise and complete. Non-requested information and lengthy responses are therefore discouraged.
