Description: The Request for Proposal (RFP) is an invitation to submit offers for the X-ray Photoelectron Spectrometer, as further described herein. Surface Science Western at Western University currently operates two X-ray photoelectron spectrometers (Kratos AXIS Supra, Kratos AXIS Nova), which are among the most heavily utilized in Canada and commonly run at full capacity – it is planned to keep these instruments operational. The proposed instrument will add to our existing capabilities and will be positioned to be among the premiere research grade XPS instruments in Eastern Canada. As a heavily used academic research facility and industrial service laboratory the proposed instrument needs to have state of the art technical capabilities including: high spectral resolution using a monochromatic Al(K alpha) source (with available secondary monochromatic high energy source , (i.e. Ag L, Cr K, or other high energy HAXPS source), high resolution XPS imaging, robust charge neutralization capabilities, cluster and monatomic Ar ion etching, sample heating and cooling, ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS),a broad spot ion beam in the introduction chamber for surface etching/milling, and an attachable glove box. Sample size and type flexibility, ease of use, automation, maintenance relationships, and incentives will also be considered in the sourcing of this equipment. As a core technique for surface chemical state analyses this equipment will be used on a vast variety of samples types including but not limited to: polymers, organic coatings, minerals, powders, nanomaterials, alloys, thin film oxides, corrosion products, glasses, ceramics, electronic devices, battery materials etc.Please download the RFP documents for further details.
