Full Description

The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) is seeking information from Canadian industry, academia, research institutions, utilities, and other interested stakeholders on Canadian technologies and capabilities relevant to lunar microreactors and enabling technologies. The purpose of this Request for Information (RFI) is to obtain a broad, evidence-based view of Canada's existing strengths, technology maturity, facilities, supply chains, partnerships and development pathways. Respondents may address a complete system, one or more subsystems, specialized research or testing capabilities, or a potential consortium role. Canada is not assuming that a single Canadian entity would design and deliver an end-to-end lunar microreactor system. This RFI is intended to gather information only and does not constitute a solicitation, funding opportunity, or commitment by the Government of Canada. Information received may inform future CSA space exploration programs, technology development, technology demonstrations, procurement strategies, and international collaborations related to lunar surface power systems.

Enabling Technology for Future Missions
Solicitation # 9F063-20260085
The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) is soliciting proposals under solicitation number 9F063-20260085 for the development of one to three enabling technologies to support future space missions. The primary objective is to advance strategic technologies to reduce technical uncertainties and support the implementation of future Canadian space activities. A specific focus of this effort is the maturation of a lightweight, athermal reflecting telescope capability to Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 5. This includes the delivery of a reflecting telescope brassboard validated for Low Earth Orbit (LEO) vibration and thermal-vacuum environments, intended for Earth Observation imaging payloads on CubeSats of 4U or larger, with the telescope itself being 2U or less. Key performance targets include a Ground Sampling Distance of less than 7 metres and a swath width greater than 5 km. The project is planned for a duration of 16 months, structured around five key milestones: a Kick-off meeting, Preliminary Design Review, Detailed Design Review/Work Authorization Meeting, Test Readiness Review, and a Final Review meeting. Deliverables include the hardware brassboard, CAD and performance analysis models, software, and a Technology Roadmap for advancing to TRL 6-8. This solicitation is restricted to Canadian suppliers. Awards will be based on the highest combined rating of technical merit (60 percent) and price (40 percent), with a minimum technical score of 70 points required for consideration. The procurement process includes strict requirements for security clearances, intellectual property disclosure, and adherence to environmentally preferable packaging standards.

OSIRIS-REx Lab Organic and Inorganic Analyses Monitoring
Solicitation # 9F012-20250210
The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) is seeking specialized services for monitoring organic and inorganic contamination in laboratories and clean rooms used for the curation of astromaterials from the OSIRIS-REx mission. This effort is critical to preparing for the arrival of Canada's portion of the asteroid sample, ensuring that contamination monitoring is scientifically equivalent to the standards employed by NASA and JAXA. The scope of work includes the analysis of silicon wafers and absorbent tubes using vapour phase decomposition inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (VPD-ICP-MS) for trace metals and thermal desorption gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (TD-GC-MS) for organic compounds in both wafers and air. The contractor is responsible for providing sampling kits, including 200 mm diameter bare silicon wafers, absorbent tubes, transport blanks, and necessary accessories such as stands, tweezers, and pumps, all shipped in a manner that minimizes contaminants. This procurement is issued as an Advance Contract Award Notice (ACAN) with Balazs NanoAnalysis identified as the pre-identified supplier due to the highly specialized technical requirements. The contract is estimated to run until March 31, 2027, with potential extensions to March 31, 2030. Mandatory requirements for the supplier include ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and ISO 9001:2015 certifications, as well as demonstrated experience with ISO 14644 standards for ISO 5 cleanrooms and ITRS and SEMI guidelines for witness wafer analysis. Organic compound analysis for wafers must specifically follow the SEMI MF 1982-1103 Method-B procedure. Canada intends to retain ownership of any foreground intellectual property generated under this contract.
